Corn, soybean and rice with altered genes for enhancing, for example, resistance to vermin or herbicides, or vitamins obtained from genetically modified (GM) bacteria, are all examples of GM food and feed available on the market in Europe. Seventy percent of European citizens are of the opinion that GM food is “fundamentally unnatural”,
and 61% feel that the development of GM food should not be encouraged.
